Volunteers Needed for Videotaping Fort River School Building Committee Meetings

Volunteers are needed to videotape the Fort River School Building Committee meetings. Amherst Media will provide training and the necessary equipment, and will broadcast the meetings for the community.

The first meeting is Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 4 to 6 pm at the ARMS Professional Development Center and there will likely be one or two meetings per month. Several people willing and able to take turns doing the filming would be ideal to ensure coverage of these important meetings.

Family Directory Available

The 2017-2018 Family Directory should have come home with your youngest child's last week. If your family's circumstances require additional copies, we have extras in the Main Office -- just ask Karen or Suzanne for one!

Classroom Parents Needed

Each year parents and guardians are invited to volunteer as classroom parents. This is an extremely fun and rewarding opportunity!

Classroom parents serve as a vital link between teachers and families. Each classroom teacher has one to several room parents. Individual teachers utilize classroom parents in a manner that is comfortable for them and their classroom. These volunteers support classrooms in a variety of ways, depending upon the teachers’ preferences. Examples include:

• Communicating with the teacher regularly to determine classroom needs
• Keeping families informed of classroom events via email (or occasionally printed flyers)
• Creating and updating online “Wish Lists” for the teacher and classroom (if desired)
• Helping to plan classroom events and parties
• Recruiting field trip volunteers 

Additionally, the school administration and the PGO both utilize classroom parents as an important added means of communication with families. Room parents will be periodically asked to send email reminders to families about upcoming school-wide events and opportunities. Finally, classroom parents may organize a group class gift for the teacher at the end of the school year.

Volunteers are needed to serve as Classroom Parent for every classroom! Grab a friend and share the fun! If you can't personally volunteer please help us find someone for your child's class. Ask your friends and neighbors if they'd be willing to help. Choosing to become a class parent ensures that you will get to know your school community and most of the tasks can be done from home in your PJs!

Volunteering at Fort River: CORI Checks

If your school or PGO volunteer opportunities bring you into contact with students at school or on a field trip, you must have a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check on file.  This includes all field trip chaperones and classroom volunteers (e.g. grandparents, aunts & uncles, adult siblings).  CORI checks must be done on individual volunteers every three years and are valid for all schools within our district.   If you would like to check to see if you are current on your CORI status, please call Sasha in the Central Office at 413-362-1810.

To request a CORI check, bring a valid driver's license or passport into the Main Office at Fort River or to the district's Central Office (located within Amherst Regional Middle School at 170 Chestnut Street) for photocopying and complete the required application well in advance of any volunteer obligations. Questions about the CORI process can be directed to Suzanne in the Main Office at 413-362-1200 or Sasha in the Central Office at 413-362-1810.

Volunteers and Baked Goods Needed for the Fort River Talent Show - April 7

Volunteers and baked goods are needed for the Fort River Talent Show on April 7. Please sign-up at http://frpc.pleasebringit.com/public/ChM83I4jLHQ. Some parents are also needed to help with Dress Rehearsal after school on Thursday, April 6. 

Student volunteers are also needed. Scroll to the bottom of the list for details. Parent volunteers needed to supervise and help with cash box. Bake sale items can be dropped off at the Bake Sale Table in the library hallway starting at 6 pm. If you cannot attend, contact your room parent to donate, or have item brought to school to give to teacher. Bake Sale items can be baked goods (muffins, cookies, brownies, etc.) but also other snacks (small bags of pretzels, chips, candy bars, etc.), as long as NO NUTS. Please indicate the item you are bringing for the bake sale. Items need to be individually wrapped and ready to sell. Soda contributions should be caffeine free and non-diet.

Volunteers Needed for Field Day on June 15th

FIELD DAY IS COMING!!!!!!!

Mark your calendar for a day of fun at Fort River School, on Wednesday, June 15, 2016.  Field Day is a school wide event that allows the children to get outside for sun and fun. This year, Kids in grades 1-6 will participate in field day together (from 9-11:30am) in multi-aged groups to build school unity across grades.  

Kindergarteners will have their own special stations from 10-10:45 am.  

Groups will rotate through a variety of outdoor activity stations on the fields/playground where kids will work together and have fun.

The day will work like this:

9-11:30 Grades 1 – 6 (for the entire morning)

10-10:45 Kindergarteners join in the fun

11:30 Picnic lunch (bring your own or purchase cafeteria lunch)

We will need lots of parent volunteers to make field day a huge success. Parents can volunteer as an activity station worker or a group leader; parents can help set up or clean up.  Volunteers can sign up on the “Bring It” section of the Ft. Barnes & Noble Book Fair This Saturday, December 5th in Hadley -VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Our Barnes & Noble Book Fair to benefit Fort River is THIS SATURDAY, December 5th! Since it is the holiday shopping season as well as Educator Appreciation Day, we have a fabulous opportunity to raise some much needed money for our school and teachers.  The key is getting the customers at the store to mention Fort River at check out. There is NO COST to shoppers; B&N simply credits Fort River every time our school is mentioned at checkout.

Our volunteers have been hard at work lining up some great student and alumni performances and demonstrations, and coordinating a gift wrap table.  In addition we will have a welcome table with a raffle for educators, a tree decorating “craft,” and cheesecake tastings. So many opportunities to generate excitement about our wonderful Fort River School!
