Book swap - books needed

Fort River BOOK SWAP, Feb. 7-13
BOOK DONATIONS NEEDED! IMMEDIATELY!

During this week, ALL FR students will bring home at least two new-to-you books, with a FR Library BOOK SWAP sticker on them. These books are your forever-books. While everyone is welcome to donate books, it’s not required to participate. Bring in your donations by Feb 6th. Drop books in the box in the lobby or bring them down to the library.

The FR Library, Literacy Team and the FR PGO are excited to host our Book Swap the week before February vacation. We are particularly looking for donations of books in Spanish and early readers. Graphic novels and other high interest books are welcome. We accept all book donations!

Explore the classic ballet Sleeping Beauty at Amherst Ballet’s February workshop! Everyone will find something for them from Sleeping Beauty crafts and movement games, to high-quality personalized ballet training, to learning iconic fairy roles from the ballet. Dancers will delve into the world of Ballet with lessons in music and choreography, ballet costumes, and styles and techniques of ballet from around the world. 

No previous experience required.

Chili Night January 29th!!

The Fort River 8th Annual CHILI NIGHT for a CHILLY NIGHT is just days away! Don't forget to add your chili ingredients to your grocery list! Many, many more cooks are needed! Community Dance

First Congregational Church will host a free community dance class on Friday, January 31 from 6-7:30.  The class is open to all and no dance experience is necessary.

"Express Yourself"! Kids, teens and adults in the Amherst community are invited to come immerse yourselves in the joy of dance through everyday movements, such as gesturing, walking, turning, jumping and posing, all set to natural rhythms and multi-cultural upbeat music and led by M'bewe Escobar. The next session is on Friday, January 31, from 6:00-7:15 PM in the Chapel. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and sneakers. Please enter Church through back entrance in parking lot. The more the intergenerational mix, the greater the fun!

Afra Dance

The Center Dance is excited to be welcoming back Ashirah DeviDalomba and Kalpana Devi for a special series of classes in 2020! Few spots left - classes start this week!


Afra Dance (1 hour, grades 3-8) is a diverse, spirited and life affirming celebration. Afra Dance provides a deeply energizing experience of dance and drum from the roots of traditional African dance forms. The call of live drums and the movement they inspire, supports dancers of all ages to flow in the breath, rhythm and art of living!

Fort River Food Drive!

The Fort River Student Council is having a necessities drive for The Amherst Survival Center. We have sent out fliers to the kids at Fort River.  Here are the things the Survival Center needs:


  • Canned chicken and tuna 
  • Baked Beans
  • Canned fruits and veggies
  • Pasta 
  • Soup
  • Powdered milk
  • Condiments
  • Peanut butter
  • Cooking oil 
  • Unopened Spices
If you would like to help us out you can drop off the food in the silver box by the office. The drive ends on January 15, 2020.

Kayleigh Keizer-Lawrence, our fantastic Fort River gym teacher, is in need of volunteers to help with the cross country ski program that occurs during gym class in January and February.
