Please join the PGO Board for our monthly meeting. All current Fort River parents and guardians are welcome! Parents of registered Kindergarteners or other newly enrolled students may also attend. Sign in at the Main Office to get directions to our meeting location.

New officers will be elected for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year (agenda item deferred from May). Please come if you'd like to be more involved in your child's school. Co-Officers can be appointed to a single position so that responsibilities are able to be shared. Budget, fundraising, grant proposals, and volunteer needs will also be discussed. The current Secretary, Treasurer, and Communications person (blog + social media + emails) are stepping down due to student graduations.

Small children are always welcome! We REALLY need more volunteers and help! Thanks for considering!

EVENING MEETING! If you have trouble attending daytime meetings please consider joining us for this gathering after dinner on March 5.

We will discuss upcoming fundraisers and events, current finances, and plans for the future. We have many opportunities to get involved now and will need to fill several leadership vacancies next year. Participating on the PGO Board is a great way to contribute to our school community and get to know our amazing staff. Coffee with the Librarian and Principal plus PGO Meeting and Board Elections on September 29

Please join your friends on Friday, September 29 at 8:45 am for coffee and informative conversation!

New this year! Our new librarian, Lani Blechman, has offered to host coffees in the Fort River library. We are excited to see parents have another opportunity to visit the library! At our first Coffee we will have an opportunity to meet Lani and hear about new activities in the Fort River Library. Lani is also looking for library volunteers and will explain what is involved. 

This Coffee will be preceded by a brief PGO Meeting which will include Officer Elections for the current year. All Fort River parents and guardians are automatically members of the PGO, and ALL are welcome at PGO meetings. 

PGO coffees with the Principal take place every month or so. Some coffees may take place in the evening, depending upon community feedback. There will usually be a presentation for families and specifics will be available beforehand. 

Your infants, toddlers, and preschoolers are always welcome at PGO Coffees! Families with future Amherst Elementary school children are also welcome and encouraged to attend. We are a welcoming community - join us! We hope to see you there!

PGO Coffee on Tuesday, September 15th at 9am featuring "Safety in Our Schools" from the Principals and Vote of the PGO Budget

Please join us and your friends on Tuesday, September 15 at 9 am for coffee, donuts, and informative conversation! 

Our administration will discuss recent ARPS and Fort River specific safety initiatives and take questions. Families are also invited to brainstorm PGO sponsored social and community events. Several fundraising initiatives that are underway will be described, however new ideas and volunteers are always welcome. Finally, the PGO board will present the proposed PGO budget for the current school year. The budget can be accessed via this link:

Monthly coffees will take place on or about the 15th of each month. The dates can be found on the PGO calendar which is on the right side of the blog home page. "KEEPING OUR KIDS SAFE"
NEXT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7TH, 8:40 – 9:00AM
Held the first Friday of each month in the cafeteria, these coffees provide an opportunity to talk with the principal and/or assistant principal on a variety of topics. Our first coffee will feature a presentation on the policies at Fort River that are designed to keep our kids safe at school.

Immediately following the Coffee with a Principal (9:00-10:00 am) will be a short and sweet PGO meeting where we will share information on upcoming programs and events. We really want to get new folks involved, so if you haven't attended a meeting in a while, or if you've NEVER attended a meeting, we hope you will come!

Final PGO Meeting of the year and Elections - Thurs. June 14

The final PGO meeting of this school year will be held next Thursday, June 14 at 8:45-9:15am in the FR Cafeteria.  The Fort River PGO will be electing the officers for the 2012/13 school year at this meeting.  So far, the following people have indicated interest in running for an officer position:

We hope you will join us for Family Literacy Night! A brief PGO meeting will be from 6-6:30pm in the cafeteria and pizza will be available (please sign up so we know how much to order!). At 6:30, parents/guardians head to the library where English/Language Arts Coach Linda Castronovo will give a presentation on curriculum with a focus on what parents can do to help their students become stronger readers and writers. Kids will stay in the cafeteria with Mt. Holyoke students who will guide interactive literacy activities. Preschool age and above siblings are welcome to participate in the activities while parents attend the adult session. Childcare for younger children will also be available.

Book Sale Fundraiser

A book sale fundraiser to help with the funeral expenses of Fort River parent Ana Rosa Serrano, will be held at Fort River on Wednesday, April 4 after school and during the Family Literacy Night event. Ellare Books and Fort River parent Diane Caraker will offer discounted non-fiction, fiction, picture books, teacher books and workbooks at 50-80% discounts. Thank you for supporting the Serrano-Rosa family.

We hope you will join us for Family Literacy Night! From 6:00-6:30pm there will be a brief PGO meeting in the cafeteria and pizza will be available. At 6:30, parents/guardians will head to the library for a presentation on curriculum with a focus on what parents can do to help their students become stronger readers and writers. Kids will stay in the cafeteria with Mt. Holyoke students who will guide interactive literacy activities. 1st PGO Meeting of the Year

Wednesday marked the first PGO meeting of the year.  Please take a look at the minutes from the meeting, as well as the approved yearly budget.

We are always looking for volunteers willing to get involved with the PGO.  If you only have an hour or two to spare, please consider helping out with the Fort River Book Fair from December 2-9.  We need: set-up, cashiers, general help during class time, and breakdown.  The evening Book Fair event on December 8 will also need several volunteers to help with set-up, act as food cashiers, and help breakdown.  Look for Please Bring It sign up sheets on next week's blog.

If you'd like to have a larger role, we are currently searching for volunteers to fill the following positions:

•     Movie Night Event Coordinator
•     Volunteer Coordinator for Hour Power
•     Data Manager for next year’s student directory
•     PGO leadership for next year (Chair, Vice Chair)
•     Yearbook Coordinator for next year

Please mark your calendars and join us for the first PGO meeting of the year on Wednesday, November 9 at 7pm in the Fort River Library. The PGO meeting agenda will be posted on the blog next week. Please note the time change and that the previously scheduled Math Curriculum Night which was to follow the meeting has been postponed until after the first of the year.
