Coffee with the Principal on January 12 at 9am



Please join your friends on Friday, January 12 at 9 am for coffee and informative conversation!

PGO coffees with the Principal take place every month or so. Some coffees may take place in the evening, depending upon community feedback. There will usually be a presentation for families and specifics will be available beforehand. The January speaker will be announced soon on social media and here next week.


Your infants, toddlers, and preschoolers are always welcome at PGO Coffees! Families with future Amherst Elementary school children are also welcome and encouraged to attend. We are a welcoming community - join us! We hope to see you there!

First Day Coffees for Families Sponsored by the PGO on August 30 and September 5


The Fort River staff will welcome students and their families into the gym starting at 8:50 on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 30. After you say goodbye to your children, please join Principal Diane Chamberlain, Assistant Principal Martha Toro, and your friends in the cafeteria where the PGO will serve refreshments and celebrate the new school year! Kindergarten families will come on Tuesday morning and can expect more PGO refreshments after sending off their little ones to begin their first day! 

The Family Coffee Hour is a gentle way for everyone to transition after an exciting and often emotional start to the new school year. Please join us!

Coffee with the Principal on March 3 at 9 am



Please join your friends on Friday, March 3 at 9 am for coffee and informative conversation!

The Coffee will feature Assistant Principal Kris Griswold and the timely topic is Standardized Testing. What is the culture for testing at Fort River? How do teachers and students prepare? How can testing related stress be managed? What's up with computerized testing? Is it possible for standardized testing to be fun? (Believe it or not, at Fort River the answer is YES!) There will be ample time for questions.

Kindergarten Family Welcome Coffee on Tuesday, September 6

Fort River looks forward to the arrival of our kindergarteners on Tuesday morning! After your child is settled into their classroom, please join other kindergarten families and members of the Fort River community in the cafeteria. We will serve coffee and donuts from the Glazed Doughnut Shop, and you can relax with old friends and make some new ones. Hope to see you there!

"How Does Town Meeting Work?" Join us for PGO Coffee with the Principal this Friday, February 5th to Find Out!


Please join your friends Friday, February 5th at 9 am for coffee, donuts, and informative conversation! 


Special Guest Jim Pistrang, Amherst Town Meeting Moderator, will join us to talk about how Town Meeting works.  Topics to be covered include Town Meeting composition, rules, and procedures, how to become a member, and how items get addressed at Town Meeting. There will also be time for questions. 

This year Town Meeting will be considering funding for several capital projects including the Amherst Elementary School Building Project

The deadline to submit paperwork to be listed on the ballot as a candidate for Town Meeting is February 9th. Write-in candidates are allowed.

PGO Coffee on Tuesday, September 15th at 9am featuring "Safety in Our Schools" from the Principals and Vote of the PGO Budget

Please join us and your friends on Tuesday, September 15 at 9 am for coffee, donuts, and informative conversation! 

Our administration will discuss recent ARPS and Fort River specific safety initiatives and take questions. Families are also invited to brainstorm PGO sponsored social and community events. Several fundraising initiatives that are underway will be described, however new ideas and volunteers are always welcome. Finally, the PGO board will present the proposed PGO budget for the current school year. The budget can be accessed via this link:

Please join other parents and guardians this Friday morning at our monthly Coffee with a Principal. Topics change each month and there is always time for questions and dialogue. PGO officer elections for 2015-16 will take place immediately afterwards. It is not too late to nominate yourself or a friend for a position. The current officers are stepping down but will be available to mentor new volunteers. There will also be information on how Fort River families can be involved in the committee process.
