The jubilat/Jones Reading Series continues its 17th year with the fourth reading of the 2015-16 season on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at 3:00 pm in the Goodwin Room of the Jones Library. The jubilat/Jones Reading Series showcases established and emerging poets in a number of readings each year. This reading will feature the poetry of Michelle Gil-Montero and Sawako Nakayasu.
Michelle Gil-Montero is a poet and translator of contemporary Latin American literature. She has one book of poetry, Attached Houses (Brooklyn Arts Press, 2013), and several book translations, most recently This Blue Novel by Mexican poet Valerie Mejer (Action Books, 2015) and Dark Museum by Argentine writer María Negroni (Action Books, 2015). Her work has appeared in jubilat, Spoon River Poetry Review,Beloit Poetry Journal, Web Conjunctions, Colorado Review, and other journals. She attended Brown University and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. She lives in Pittsburgh and is Associate Professor of English at Saint Vincent College.
Sawako Nakayasu was born in Japan, raised in the US, and has also lived in France and China. Her most recent books are The Ants (Les Figues Press, 2014), and Texture Notes (Letter Machine, 2010), and recent translations include The Collected Poems of Sagawa Chika (Canarium Books, 2015), and Tatsumi Hijikata’s Costume en Face (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2015). She has received fellowships from the NEA and PEN, and her own work has been translated into Japanese, Norwegian, Swedish, Arabic, Chinese, and Vietnamese.
