Remember to keep making (and talking about) art over the summer! If you're looking for some great art camps and classes, here are a few local ones with awesome programming in addition to the fantastic museums in our area:

Multi-Arts Camp: Hosted right here at Fort River! Theater, art, music, dance, creative stories, and more. For ages 4-12, with groups organized by age. www.multi-arts.org

Feather Press Studio art classes: Run by Wildwood art teacher Julie Rivera at a beautiful studio in Leverett. Summer sessions include classes for ages 5-7 and 7-12, and then after-school art classes (including portfolio development for middle and high school) begin in September. Summer Art at the Art Barn: Monday-Friday, full day art program in 1- or 2-week sessions for kids in grades two through eight, in Hatfield. Experienced teachers, multi-media! Includes painting, drawing, ceramics, crafts, and more. More info at www.summerartbarn.com

ARMS "Our Immigration Stories" Art Photo/Text Exhibit Opening on June 15

Please join students and educators from Amherst Regional Middle School for a reception of Our Immigration Stories photo-text exhibit on Tuesday, May 15 from 5:30-7:00pm! Located in the ARMS Cafeteria, Library and Main Lobby-Gallery.

This work was supported by a grant from the Amherst Education Foundation, which relies on charitable donations and fundraising events to offer Excellence Grants to educators in the Amherst, Pelham, Leverett, and Shutesbury Elementary Schools and the Regional Schools.

 

Art Room Volunteers Needed for Year End Clean Up

Calling All Hands!

The Fort River Art Room needs your help! As we finish up students' projects and get ready for summer, there are many things to do around the art room. Ms. Singer could use some help from Fort River families (including alumni!) during the last week of school. Please join her in the art room! Some of the tasks include:

> Taking down displays & sorting student work
> Wrapping the kiln in tarps
> Covering shelves in the storage closet with tarps so that the roof doesn't leak on things if it rains
> Covering shelves in the main classroom space
> Moving a few things into the closet
> Sorting and organizing supplies

Here are the dates/times when she could use help. If you can make it to any part of any of these time slots, please let Nicole know!

Monday, June 18th from 10:45am to 1:15pm

Tuesday, June 19th from 1:30pm to 3:00pm

Wednesday, June 20th 11:30am to 12:30pm

LSSE Art Classes beginning in late March

Exploring Art is for ages 6-8 starting March 26^th

In this class, students take their ideas ideas and turn them into expressive works of art! Students will explore a variety of art processes including drawing, painting, and collage in a gentle and supportive environment This is great class for kids who love art and exploring materials! This class is capped at 6 students for a small group atmosphere and individual attention.

Joyful Drawing & Painting is for ages 8-11 starting March 28^th

In this class, students will find their unique artistic voice while developing drawing and painting skills. In a warm supportive environment, we will explore the process of taking our ideas and turning them into works of art that are meaningful to us. Together, we will explore skills and techniques for drawing and painting with a variety of materials. This class is capped at 6 students for small group atmosphere and individual attention.

ArtContinues Featuring Manet's Roses in a Vase on March 21 - Think Spring!

#artcontinues, led by 37-year veteran art teacher Teri Magner, promotes art learning for all ages in the Amherst area. Teri currently offer Wine & Painting Events for all skill levels and private painting or drawing lessons, events and fundraisers in the Pioneer Valley. 

Teri, along with Sue Crutch, currently host monthly public events at AmherstWorks, as well as private parties and fundraisers there, and at many other locations in the Amherst area and the Pioneer Valley. Everyone of every ability has the chance to paint a masterpiece. No prior painting experience is required.

No classes March 29 and April 19 due to School Breaks and Holidays

Teen Painting and Drawing classes beginning March 2

Joy Art Space presents Teen Painting and Drawing classes with Lily Joy Friedling beginning Friday, March 2!  This is a great opportunity for teens to get involved in an enriching after school activity where they can engage in self expression in a supportive environment. The studio is right on North Pleasant Street, walking distance from the Amherst schools. Spaces are limited and fill quickly -- register soon to ensure a spot in the class!

Drawing and Painting (Ages 12 - 17)
In this class, students will find their unique artistic voice while developing drawing and painting skills. In a warm supportive environment, we will explore the process of taking our ideas and turning them into works of art that are meaningful to us. Art Grant Photo Permission Forms Due Now

important message from Art Teacher, Ms. Singer ...

Dear families:

I am excited to share that we have applied for the Champion Creatively Alive Children grant from Crayola! This grant provides $2,500 to support teachers and families in bringing art into their curricula and households (stay tuned for grant-funded programming later in the year!). 

In order to get the grant, we need one last photo permission form for each student, as we are required to provide pictures of our young artists at work and/or their art works during the grant-sponsored activities. Even though Fort River has its own photo release forms, Crayola requires that families complete their particular form. It is very short though! 

I have given copies of the form to each classroom teacher, so your child will be bringing home the form for you to sign and return. PLEASE DO THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE - FORMS MUST BE RETURNED TO SCHOOL BY TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9TH! But if you can send it back tomorrow, even better! Ask your child for the copy of the form that we sent home. It's two sided - English and Spanish. Misplaced your form? Click here for a copy.

T-Shirt Design Contest! Due Friday, May 5th

T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST

DUE BY FRIDAY, MAY 5th

Please turn your designs in to Ms. Singer in the Art Room.

Winning design (as chosen by students) will be featured on next fall’s Fort River T- shirt!! Winner will also receive a free shirt!

Round 1: Each grade will vote for one design from their grade level.

Round 2: The 7 final designs (1 from each grade) will be posted in the lobby and the whole school will vote for the winner.
