School Reorganization News

As most of you already know, serious budget issues are prompting the school superintendents and the school board to study the feasibility of reorganizing the town's schools. Last year a committee made up of educators and parents worked at examining possible reorganization options for the elementary schools. The Executive Summary of the report is on the ARPS.org website here.
The Superintendents will be holding further meeting(s) after the school vacation to examine the feasibility of moving forward with some form of reorganization and if you would like to be a part of it or have any ideas, or questions and concerns, please email them directly to Helen Vivian at vivianh@arps.org. School Committee Member Catherine Sanderson, who was also on the school reorganization committee and is a Fort River parent, has posted a press release from School Co-Superintendent Helen Vivian on her blog here. (This also went out in the backpacks.) Catherine has also posted an entry on some of her own thoughts about the restructuring directly beneath the press release.
Although I am not planning on making any formal updates to the Parent Council website over the break, I will try to post any breaking news on this topic as it comes up. -- Ann McLaughlin, Parent Council Secretary
