Amherst Youth Lacrosse registration is now open!

Sharing this information from Amherst Youth Lacrosse ...

To all kids in grades 3 to 6 ... If you are a returning player, welcome back!  If you are interested in playing lacrosse, welcome!  New players are strongly encouraged to give the "fastest sport in two feet" a try.  Equipment is available to rent for a modest fee so that equipment costs are not a barrier for participation.
Registration for the Girls and Boys lacrosse teams are capped when a limit is reached.  Please register early in order to ensure that your son/daughter has a spot on the team.  If you need more time to pay the registration fee please complete the on-line registration but hold off on the final registration payment.  You will still need to pay the $25 US Lacrosse membership fee.  AYL prides itself with making the sport accessible for families.  Please contact me directly if you need some flexibility in this area.
Our season runs from late April to early June.

It’s a Great Time to Return Overdue Town Library Materials!

The Jones Library and branches will be offering an amnesty period from January 9 – 31, 2017 for library patrons who return overdue library materials.  Library patrons are encouraged to bring a non-perishable, non-expired food donation for the Amherst Survival Center when they return overdue library materials during this time.

“This is a great opportunity for patrons with long-overdue library materials to get those items back to the library without having to pay the fines that are accumulating,” says Amy Anaya, Head of Borrower Services at the Jones Library.  It’s important to note that the amnesty applies only to items that are being returned during this time.  It will not be possible to forgive existing overdue fines on items that have already been returned, or for billed or lost items.

The food collected will support the work of the Amherst Survival Center, a local service agency that assists many in our community in meeting their basic needs.

For further information about returning overdue items, please contact Amy Anaya, Jones Library anayaa@joneslibrary.org or 413/259-3132

MLK Assembly on Friday, January 13

You are invited!

Fort River Staff are organizing an assembly to celebrate Martin Luther King Day. The assembly will be a follow up to the recent "We Choose Love" assembly. We hope you can join the Fort River community for this special community event honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Friday, January 13 at 9:50 am.

The staff will be singing a Unity song at the assembly and families are invited to sing along with the CHORUS. You can find the beautiful lyrics below and watch the YouTUBE video for the tune. Thanks to Ms. Encarnacion for organizing and spreading the word!

"You are not alone"
Unity song

(Ms. Singer solo)
One voice, one song
One purpose, one breath
We journey on our way
Some lost, some torn
Still searching
We got to find our way

CHORUS
If you believe with me
We can do it together
We can take this world
And make it better
Standing side by side
Through this stormy weather
We can make a change
That will last forever

(Ms. G.B. solo)
No war, no hate, no hunger
It’s time to leave it all behind
One hope, one dream, one nation
We make it if we try

CHORUS
If you believe with me
We can do it together
We can take this world
And make it better
Standing side by side
Through  stormy weather
We can make a change
That will last forever

(Ms. Chamberlain and Thouli Mohasi duet)
Everybody sing with me
Love, love
Join in unity
Let your head up high
The voices will be heard
We are many different colors
But this is how we are brothers
Come on and sing with me
In perfect harmony

CHORUS
If you believe with me
We can do it together
We can take this world
And make it better
Standing side by side
Through stormy weather
We can make a change
That will last forever

Repeat CHORUS 2 more times.
